Job Summary

An Assistant Operator provides support within the team to control, operate, and maintain machinery such as boilers, and generators required to generate electric power and take appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

  • Minimum Qualification: HND
  • Experience Level: Mid level
  • Experience Length: 2 years

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems
  • Assist with controlling generator output to match the phase, frequency, or voltage of electricity supplied to panels
  • Assist with performing checks based on the maintenance plan at established intervals
  • Assist with regulating equipment operations and conditions, such as oil, and water levels, based on panel data and checks
  • Record operational data by completing and maintaining forms, logs, or reports
  • Clean, lubricate, or maintain equipment, such as generators, pumps, or compressors, to prevent failure or deterioration
  • Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness throughout shift by conducting routine checks and carrying out corrective cleaning of the power plant and its environs when necessary
  • Examine and test equipment, using testing devices such as multi-meters, battery testers, and ET
  • Make adjustments or minor repairs, such as replacing parts, tightening leaking glands and pipe joints
  • Replenish consumables such as air filters, oil filters, fuel filters, water filters, and gas filters based on maintenance plan or panel data
  • Collect AGO and soil samples for laboratory analysis
  • Ensure prompt reporting of incidents such as shutdowns, defects, unusual noise, smell, or vibration to the Operator
  • Observe all health and safety regulations in accordance with TPN and client’s safety policies and manuals
  • Perform all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with provided instructions
  • Any other job assigned by the Operator/Power plant supervisor


Requirements:

  • A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in a mechanical or electrical position
  • Must have a proven knowledge of how to work with machines and use tools
  • Must have a positive team attitude when working with other team members
  • Must possess sound troubleshooting knowledge and skills with the ability to find and solve problems quickly and precisely
  • Demonstrate sound technical knowledge either in power plant operations, or equivalent
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer knowledge is a plus
