Reports To: Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer

Employment Type: Full-Time (Onsite)

Experience: 1-3 years (Post NYSC)

Job overview

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's accounting records, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, taxation, payroll, business performance analysis and financial planning. The successful candidate will ensure sound financial management practices, statutory compliance and provide management with timely financial information to support strategic decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Maintain accurate accounting records, journals, ledgers and subsidiary books.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure proper recording and classification of all financial transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare schedules for external audits and coordinate audit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal financial controls.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare and file all statutory tax returns within prescribed timelines.
  • Manage VAT, PAYE, Corporate Income Tax, Withholding Tax and other statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external auditors when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and statutory reporting requirements.

Payroll Administration

  • Process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
  • Maintain payroll records and employee deductions.
  • Ensure statutory payroll remittances are made promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll information.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Prepare annual budgets and periodic budget forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and liquidity projections.
  • Monitor working capital and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Conduct profitability analysis by product, project or business unit.
  • Support management in financial planning and strategic decision-making.

Costing & Business Performance

  • Analyse operational costs and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain business performance dashboards and financial KPIs.
  • Prepare monthly management reports highlighting financial performance


Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to financial systems and internal controls.
  • Safeguard company assets through sound financial management practices.
  • Support implementation of financial management software and automation initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Management or a related field.
  • Possession of professional qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1- 3 years relevant work experience in accounting and/or finance.
