Job summary
The tax manager will lead the firm’s tax advisory, compliance, planning, and regulatory engagements across a broad range of industries. The successful candidate will provide strategic tax advice to clients, oversee statutory compliance, manage tax audits and investigations, and ensure that clients remain fully compliant with applicable tax laws and regulatory requirements. The role requires a technically strong professional with excellent leadership, client relationship management, and project management capabilities. The Tax Manager will work closely with the Managing Director and other service lines to deliver high-quality tax solutions that minimize tax risk while maximizing business value.

- Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to corporate and individual clients.
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and recommend practical, commercially sound solutions.
- Advise clients on the tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, financing arrangements, investments, and business transactions.
- Identify opportunities for tax efficiency while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Interpret and apply relevant Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and emerging tax policies.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with companies' income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), withholding tax (WHT), personal income tax (PAYE), capital gains tax, stamp duties, tertiary education tax, NASENI levy, NITDA levy, and other statutory obligations.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and proactively advise clients on their implications
- Review tax computations, schedules, and statutory reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Lead statutory tax audits, tax investigations, tax reviews, and due diligence engagements.
- Represent clients before the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), state internal revenue services, Nigeria Customs Service, and other regulatory agencies.
- Prepare responses to tax assessments, objections, and regulatory enquiries.
- Negotiate and resolve tax disputes while maintaining strong regulatory relationships.
- Evaluate clients’ tax control frameworks and identify compliance risks.
- Recommend improvements to tax governance, policies, and internal control systems.
- Support enterprise risk management initiatives relating to taxation and regulatory compliance.
- Review accounting records and financial information to ensure tax accuracy.
- Manage a portfolio of tax clients across multiple sectors.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell the firm’s advisory and consulting services.
- Participate in proposal development, client presentations, and business development initiatives.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior tax professionals.
- Review the work of team members to ensure quality and technical accuracy.
- Allocate assignments, monitor project delivery, and manage engagement budgets.
- Foster collaboration and continuous professional development within the team.
- Support financial planning and business performance analysis where required.
- Prepare technical reports, tax opinions, and executive presentations.
- Perform other duties and special projects assigned by the Managing Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, law, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7–10 years relevant experience in taxation, accounting, consulting, or professional services.
- Experience within a Big Four firm or reputable consulting firm will be an added advantage.
- One or more of the following is preferred ACA (ICAN), ACCA, ACTI (Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria), CPA or CFA (added advantage)
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent understanding of IFRS and financial reporting.
- Experience with tax planning and tax advisory engagements.

- Transfer pricing knowledge is an advantage.
- Financial analysis and interpretation.
