Farm Attendant
Job summary
The Poultry Attendant is responsible for the daily care, feeding, health monitoring, and general management of layer birds to ensure optimal egg production, flock welfare, and biosecurity compliance.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
Bird Care & Feeding:
- Provide feed and clean water according to schedule and ration plan.
- Monitor feed intake and report abnormalities.
- Ensure feeders and drinkers are clean and functioning.
Egg Collection & Handling:
- Collect eggs regularly (2–3 times daily).
- Sort, count, and record egg production.
- Clean and store eggs properly to prevent breakage and contamination.
Health Monitoring:
- Observe birds daily for signs of illness, stress, or injury.
- Isolate sick birds and notify supervisor immediately.
- Assist with vaccination, medication, and vitamin administration as directed.
Housing & Sanitation:
- Clean poultry house, cages, and equipment routinely.
- Remove wet litter, droppings, and maintain dry bedding.
- Disinfect housing areas according to biosecurity protocol.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain daily records of mortality, feed consumption, egg production, medication/vaccination given, and Biosecurity & Safety
- Enforce strict farm biosecurity (footbaths, protective clothing, visitor control).
- Prevent disease introduction and cross-contamination.
- Follow farm safety and animal welfare standards.
Waste Management:
- Properly collect and dispose of poultry droppings.
- Support manure handling for composting/biogas use (if applicable).
Requirements:
- 1 year experience
- Must be agile and hardworking
