Role Description
The Loading Master is a full-time, on-site role based in Lagos, working for Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals. The Loading Master will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the safe loading and unloading of cargo, materials, or products. This role includes planning loading sequences, verifying weights and documentation, and ensuring that loading operations comply with safety, regulatory, and company standards. The Loading Master will oversee loading teams, allocate tasks, and monitor equipment use to minimize damage, delays, and safety risks. Daily duties include inspecting loading areas and equipment, communicating with drivers, warehouse staff, and supervisors, and resolving any issues that may affect timing, quality, or safety of operations. The Loading Master will also maintain accurate records, prepare loading reports, and collaborate with logistics and warehouse teams to optimize turnaround times and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise loading and unloading operations.
- Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) policies and industry regulations.
- Conduct pre-loading safety meetings and ship/shore safety inspections.
- Verify cargo quantities, product specifications, and loading documentation.
- Monitor loading rates, pressures, temperatures, and transfer operations.
- Coordinate with vessel officers, terminal operators, surveyors, and logistics teams.
- Ensure proper line-up of tanks, pipelines, loading arms, and hoses.
- Maintain operational records, logs, and cargo transfer reports.
- Respond to emergencies such as spills, leaks, or equipment failures.
- Ensure compliance with international standards such as ISGOTT, IMO, MARPOL, and terminal operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Marine Engineering
- Petroleum Engineering
- Nautical Science
- Maritime Studies
- Industrial Engineering
Experience
- Typically 5–10+ years in:
- Refinery operations
- Marine terminal operations
- Oil and gas logistics
- Tank farm operations
- Shipping or tanker operations
