The Livestock Manager will oversee the operational, financial, and strategic aspects of the farm’s business. This includes ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, increasing profitability, identifying growth opportunities, and building strong relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders. The role also involves managing a diverse team to ensure the farm achieves its production, marketing, and financial goals.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer in the development of strategic direction for the livestock unit, which aligns with the overall strategic goals of the company.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to drive revenue growth and profitability.
  • Identify new market opportunities and expansion prospects for farm products.
  • Analyze market trends, competitors, and customer demands to inform decision-making.
  • Prepare short-term and long-term business plans for approval by the management.
  • Oversee daily farm operations, ensuring all processes run efficiently and meet quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Farm Supervisors to optimize resource utilization, including land, equipment, and manpower.
  • Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
  • Manage vaccination and disease prevention protocols
  • Conduct regular health checks and administer treatments as necessary
  • Collect and analyze data to improve livestock performance
  • Maintain detailed records of livestock health and production metrics
  • Develop and manage the farm’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage farm staff, ensuring high levels of productivity and morale.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Identify potential risks to farm operations and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Resolve operational issues and conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on operational and financial performance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and suppliers.
  • Any other duties as assigned or required by the company or the group.


Requirements:

  • A good degree in Livestock/Veterinary Medicine or Animal Sciences
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in livestock management
  • Proven track record of managing farm operations or similar businesses successfully.
  • Good knowledge of animal husbandry and veterinary practices
  • Knowledge of advanced livestock nutrition and feeding practices
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic business plans.
  • Knowledge of agricultural processes and farm operations.
  • Experience with supply chain management and inventory control.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing sales strategies.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and handle livestock safely
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to animal welfare and ethical farming practices
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis
  • Familiarity with agricultural regulations and compliance standards
  • Experience in implementing animal health programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct field research and trials
  • Proficiency in herd management software, MS Office Suite, G-Suite, etc.
  • Must be legally able to work in Nigeria.
  • Should be ready to travel across the States on a regular basis.
