Job summary

The System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day technical support of end-user hardware, IT asset lifecycle management, system upgrades, operating system administration, and print server operations across the organisation.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Hardware Technical Support & Repairs: Provide first- and second-line technical support for desktops, laptops, and peripherals; diagnose faults and carry out or coordinate hardware repairs to minimise user downtime.
  • IT Asset Management & Tagging: Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all IT assets, including procurement intake, asset tagging, assignment tracking, and retirement/disposal records.
  • System Upgrades & OS Administration: Plan and execute operating system upgrades, patches, and system re-imaging across the device fleet, ensuring machines remain current, stable, and secure.
  • Print Server Management: Administer print servers and network printers/MFPs, including driver deployment, queue management, and troubleshooting of print, scan-to-email, and scan-to-folder issues.
  • Software Upgrades and Patches over DS: Install, upgrade, and maintain standard software images and business applications on end-user systems.
  • Documentation & Reporting — Maintain an accurate asset register and support-ticket log; provide regular status reports to the Technical Lead on outstanding hardware issues and asset movements.
  • Incident Response — Respond promptly to hardware and system-level incidents, escalating to the Technical Lead where required.


Requirements:

  • HND in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years' hands-on experience in system administration or IT hardware support.
  • Proven experience with IT asset management/tagging processes and tools.
  • Solid working knowledge of Windows (and/or Linux) system administration, imaging, and patch management.
  • Experience administering print servers and multifunction printers (MFPs) in an office environment.
  • Relevant certifications are an advantage: CompTIA A+/Network+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, ITIL Foundation, or equivalent.


Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong hands-on hardware diagnostic and repair skills.
  • Meticulous record-keeping, especially for asset tracking and tagging.
  • Good time management — able to triage and resolve multiple support requests across the organisation.
  • Clear communicator, comfortable supporting non-technical staff.
  • Reliable and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership over assigned equipment and systems.
