Responsibilities:
- The Swimming Coach is responsible for the overall delivery of swimming as part of the UK National Curriculum to pupils from Reception class to Year 6.
- They work with children across all ability levels—from beginners learning the basics to advanced swimmers refining their skills.
- Identify pupils’ abilities and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of each group
- Develop tailored training programs to improve endurance, speed, and technique.
- Prepare students for competitions with strategies and motivational support.
- Enforce pool rules and respond to emergencies promptly.
- Ensure the safety standards are met, and life-saving standards are followed in all swimming sessions.
- Showcase deep knowledge and passion for swimming while clearly explaining techniques to pupils, ensuring both understanding and enthusiasm in their learning.
- Maintain logs of emergency drills and safety checks.
- Coordinate with the Head of PE and other staff on scheduling and events.
- Monitor and organise swimming materials
- Evaluate sessions and give feedback to the Deputy Head Teacher
- Stay updated with modern coaching techniques and safety protocols and to attend relevant courses, disseminating the information to colleagues
- Support with identifying training needs for pupils in the swim squad and facilitate appropriate training sessions
- Provide parents with information regarding the subject at the parents’ conference and correspond with parents whose children are in the swim squad
- Supervise the Lifeguard during swim sessions and be responsible for administering first aid around the pool
- Ensure that the swimming pool is in good condition and that the chlorine levels are always checked
- Regularly assess each child’s swimming ability and progress, and arrange to award children with the appropriate swimming certification
- To attend regular meetings with the Head of PE and carry out administrative work as and when necessary
- To undertake other duties in connection with the subject in the school which the Deputy Head Teacher and Head Teacher may from time to time require.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Diploma
- 3 years of previous experience in a similar role
