Support/Credit Officer
Job summary
We are seeking proactive, ethical, and community-driven Support/Credit Officers to expand our outreach and manage our growing loan portfolio and expanding services. The successful candidates will work directly with grassroots communities, especially market women and small-scale entrepreneurs, promoting financial inclusion while advancing our broader mission of poverty reduction and empowerment. The Support/Credit Officer will report directly to the Branch Head and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Visit markets and community clusters regularly to engage market women and small-scale entrepreneurs
- Mobilize and encourage eligible women to become members of Gbonse Foundation for Economic Development
- Clearly explain the organisation’s services, including microcredit, financial literacy, women empowerment initiatives, and access to basic legal support
- Identify and assess prospective borrowers through field visits and background checks
- Prepare and submit loan appraisal reports for approval
- Facilitate loan disbursement and ensure proper documentation
- Monitor loan utilization and provide financial guidance to clients
- Ensure timely loan repayment and actively manage recovery of overdue accounts
- Maintain accurate client records and portfolio performance reports
- Identify clients facing social or legal challenges and refer them appropriately within the organisation’s support framework
- Build and sustain strong relationships within assigned markets and communities
Requirements:
- Minimum of OND/HND/BSc in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related field
- 1–3 years’ experience in microfinance, banking, NGO field operations, credit administration, or related field,
- Background or training in Accounting is an added advantage
- Prior experience in microfinance operations is a strong advantage
- Strong communication and community mobilization skills
- Willingness to work extensively in the field across Lagos markets
- Ability to meet performance and recovery targets
- Demonstrated interest in poverty alleviation and women's empowerment
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills
- Confidence speaking in public and engaging community groups
- Good analytical and basic accounting skills
- Self-motivated and target-driven
