Senior Accountant
Job summary
The role will oversee core accounting operations, ensure financial accuracy and compliance, and provide strategic financial support to management. The role requires strong technical accounting expertise, IFRS knowledge, tax proficiency, and experience in IT contract structures (SLA-based billing, subscription, models, milestone payments, and project-based invoicing), strong experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and accurate revenue recognition — particularly within a technology or service-based environment.

Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and chart of accounts structure.
- Perform complex reconciliations (bank, intercompany, vendor, receivables).
- Prepare management reports and financial performance dashboards.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FIRS, state tax authorities).
- Manage external audits and statutory reporting.
- Prepare management accounts with variance analysis.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis:
- Lead annual budgeting process
- Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights.
- Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis on IT investments.
- Monitor project profitability (on a per-client/contract basis)
Revenue Recognition:
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in line with IFRS 15 for software licensing agreements and SaaS subscriptions (monthly/annual billing), where applicable. , Managed service contracts, multi-element arrangements (software + support + implementation), Milestone-based project revenue and recurring revenue
- Review SLAs and client contracts to determine appropriate revenue treatment.
- Track deferred revenue, accrued income schedules, and contract liabilities.
- Revenue assurance
Taxation Management:
- Ensure timely filing of VAT returns, PAYE and pension remittances, WHT, and Company Income tax
- Optimize tax efficiency within legal frameworks
- Manage tax audits and correspondences.
Accounts Payable & Procurement Oversight:
- Track vendor payments (hardware suppliers, cloud providers, software vendors).
- Reconcile supplier statements.
- Ensure proper capitalisation of IT assets (servers, networking equipment).
- Monitor procurement compliance and cost controls.
- Track foreign vendor payments and FX exposure.
Accounts Receivable & Credit Control:
- Oversee invoicing for enterprise clients, and government contracts
- Monitor receivables ageing.
- Implement credit control policies to reduce bad debts.
Accounts Payable & Procurement Oversight:
- Ensure oversight in vendor payments (hardware suppliers, cloud providers, software vendors).
- Reconcile supplier statements.
- Ensure proper capitalisation of IT assets (servers, networking equipment).
- Monitor procurement compliance and cost controls.
- Track foreign vendor payments and FX exposure.
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Develop and enforce internal financial controls.
- Implement segregation of duties.
- Prevent fraud and financial leakage.
- Support Standards (ISO and/or IT governance) compliance
Financial Systems & Automation:
- Manage the accounting module in ERP software (Odoo).
- Integrate billing systems with accounting systems.
- Generate KPI dashboards for management.
Team Leadership
- Supervise junior accountants and finance officers.
- Provide mentorship and performance oversight.
- Coordinate with procurement, HR, and operations teams.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification (ICAN / ACCA / CPA) is required.
- An MBA (Finance) will be an advantage.
- 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a B2B, IT, SaaS, or technology company preferred
- Proven experience handling full accounting cycle independently
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Odoo, SAP, etc.).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, financial modelling).
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax and financial regulations.
- Strong IFRS knowledge (especially IFRS 15 & IFRS 16).
- Understanding of IT project accounting and capitalisation rules.
