Job summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced school accountant to oversee the financial health of our educational institution in Lagos. In this role, you will manage all daily financial operations, including tuition fee collection, expense tracking, payroll processing, and statutory tax compliance.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:
Revenue & Fee Management:
  • Prepare and distribute student bills and fee invoices accurately ahead of each school term.
  • Track tuition payments, verify bank tellers/transfers, and issue official receipts.
  • Manage debtor aging reports and enforce the school's fee collection policy.
  • Reconcile student accounts and resolve parental queries regarding billing and balances.

Budgeting & Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including cash flow statements.
  • Support administrative management with budget planning, forecasting, and departmental cost control.
  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations and monitor petty cash disbursements.
  • Audit and verify all internal expense claims before processing payments.

Payroll & Statutory Compliance:
  • Process monthly staff payroll, ensuring accurate deductions for absences or advances.
  • Manage and remit statutory deductions, including Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax and pensions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Lagos State internal revenue laws and educational financial regulations.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual financial audits.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of an HND in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification (ICAN or ACCA) is a major advantage.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting, with specific experience in a school environment highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and specialised accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or school management ERP software).
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws, PAYE administration, and statutory filing procedures.
