Research Assistant

The Research Assistant will support Proganics Ltd's innovative insect farming projects by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in the development of sustainable high-protein livestock feed.
This role involves collaborating with production, process technicians, and research teams to optimize Black Soldier Fly (BSF) cultivation processes and contribute to biotechnological innovations in organic waste conversion.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support Experimental Design: Assist in planning research trials, including setting up experiment parameters, identifying required materials, and preparing test samples.
· Conduct Research Trials: Participate in daily research activities, including rearing black soldier fly larvae, measuring growth rates, and testing feed formulations.
· Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, record, and organize research data accurately; analyze results using spreadsheets and basic statistical tools to identify trends or improvements.
· Laboratory Operations: Prepare laboratory equipment, solutions, and materials; maintain the cleanliness of lab workspaces and ensure proper disposal of waste.
· Environmental Monitoring: Track and record temperature, humidity, feeding schedules, and environmental conditions that influence insect growth and productivity.
· Documentation & Reporting: Prepare written reports, summaries, and visual presentations of research findings for internal reviews and knowledge sharing.
· Conduct laboratory experiments and research according to project guidelines.
· Assist senior researchers in product development and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications:
· BSc. In Microbiology, biochemistry, or a related science field.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a research or laboratory role, preferably within biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word).
· Ability to analyze and interpret data using Excel (charts, pivot tables, basic statistics).
· Knowledge of experimental design, data analysis, and laboratory procedures.
· Familiarity with insect biology or farming is an added advantage.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work both independently and within a research team.
· Previous laboratory or research experience is highly desirable.
· Attention to detail and adherence to safety and lab protocols.
