Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:
  • Assess patients' physical, emotional, and psychological conditions upon admission and throughout their care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
  • Administer medications, injections, IV fluids, and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and observe for changes in health conditions.
  • Assist physicians during medical examinations, procedures, and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and nursing documentation.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment plans, medication usage, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid or life-saving interventions when necessary.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control protocols are strictly followed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic patient environment.
  • Prepare and operate medical equipment while ensuring proper maintenance and safety.
  • Collaborate with doctors, laboratory personnel, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Collect blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory analysis when required.
  • Monitor and report patients' progress, reactions to medications, and any complications to the attending physician.
  • Participate in ward rounds, nursing meetings, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support health promotion, immunization, and community outreach programs where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing ethics, and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor junior nursing staff, nursing assistants, and student nurses when assigned.
  • Perform any other nursing duties assigned by management or the Head of Nursing Services.


Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Valid registration and current practicing license with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) or the relevant nursing regulatory authority.
  • Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience (depending on the organization's requirements).
  • Experience in hospitals, clinics, specialist healthcare facilities, or community healthcare settings is preferred.
  • Excellent patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing procedures, medications, and infection control practices.
  • Ability to administer medications safely and accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate patient records and documentation.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems are an added advantage.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and emergency call duties when required.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
