Job summary
A Procurement Officer in a pharmaceutical company is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of pharmaceutical products, equipment, and services required for the company’s operations. - Develop and implement procurement plans based on organizational needs.
- Work closely with pharmacy, sales, and inventory teams to forecast demand.
- Ensure availability of pharmaceutical products to avoid stock-outs.
- Identify and evaluate qualified suppliers and manufacturers.
- Maintain relationships with approved vendors and distributors.
- Conduct supplier performance assessments.
- Prepare and process purchase orders.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Monitor order status to ensure timely delivery.
- Ensure procurement complies with pharmaceutical regulatory requirements such as those from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).
- Verify that products have valid registrations and approvals.
- Ensure suppliers are licensed and compliant with pharmaceutical regulations.
- Collaborate with warehouse and pharmacy departments to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Monitor expiry dates and batch tracking of pharmaceutical products.
- Prevent overstocking and stock shortages.
- Compare supplier quotations and conduct price analysis.
- Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising product quality.
- Prepare procurement budgets and reports.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier documentation.
- Keep purchase orders, invoices, and delivery notes properly documented.
- Prepare procurement reports for management review.
- Ensure purchased products meet pharmaceutical quality standards.
- Coordinate product verification with the quality assurance or pharmacist team.
Requirements:
- Minimum BSC
- 3 years of previous experience in a similar role
