The Principal of the Secondary School is the instructional leader and senior executive responsible for the day-to-day academic, pastoral, and operational direction of the Secondary School (Years 5–7). Reporting to the Head of School, the Principal drives academic excellence across the dual British/Nigerian curriculum

Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Provide visionary leadership for the Secondary School (Years 7–12), fostering a culture of academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure strategic alignment with the School’s vision, mission, and values.
- Contribute to the whole-school strategic development plan, owning the Secondary School’s contribution to school wideper formance indicators.
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate Secondary School staff, providing regular feedback to drive professional growth and uphold high standards of teaching and conduct.
- Serve as a role model to students and staff and as a key point of contact for parents and the wider School community.
Curriculum and Academic Development:
- Oversee the effective implementation of the British National Curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, including IGCSE at the end of Year 11.
- Lead the delivery of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) programme at senior level, ensuring full compliance with Ontario Ministry of Education requirements, including the 30−credit framework, 40 hours of community involvement, and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or equivalent literacy requirement.
- Ensure meaningful integration of Nigerian curriculum components and preparation for WAEC, NECO, and other applicable national assessments.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Cambridge Assessment International Education, Edexcel/Pearson, the Ontario Ministry of Education, and Nigerian examination bodies.
- Drive curriculum development to meet the needs of all learners, integrating evidence-informed teaching practices and contemporary pedagogy.
- Lead the planning, assessment, and reporting cycle, using academic data to monitor progress, drive interventions, and inform school improvement.
Student-Centred Culture and Pastoral Care:
- Champion a student-first approach aligned with the School’s commitment to holistic education and personal well-being.
- Oversee the pastoral care programme, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for every Secondary student.
- Supervise student discipline procedures and implement positive behaviour frameworks acrossYears 7–12.
- Lead the university and careers counselling function for OSSD graduates, supporting student transition to Canadian, British, American, and Nigerian universities.
- Implement and uphold safeguarding and child protection policies aligned with UK “Keeping Children Safe in Education” (KCSIE) standards and applicable Nigerian law.
Staff Leadership and Professional Development:
- Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-calibre Secondary teaching and support staff.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and structured performance appraisals.
- Implement and oversee continuous professional development (CPD), particularly in OSSD methodology and British curriculum best practice.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and motivated workplace culture within the Secondary School.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, information evenings, and individual meetings as required.
- Serve as a senior representative of the School at community, alumni, and accreditation events.
- Support school marketing and admissions efforts to enhance the Secondary School’s profile and maintain healthy enrolment.
Operational and Administrative Duties:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Secondary School, including timetabling, supervision rotas, resource allocation, and facilities.
- Develop and manage the Secondary School budget in collaboration with the Head of School and Business Manager.
- Ensure adherence to school policies, statutory regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Direct extracurricular, intramural, and house programmes within the Secondary School.
- Provide cover and leadership continuity in the absence of the Head of School where requested.
Other Duties:
- Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team
- Assist in organising school ceremonies, leadership initiatives, and accreditation visits.
- Perform such other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements:
- A degree in the relevant subject plus a recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent)
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years’ teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a senior secondary school leadership role (Principal, Vice-Principal, Deputy Head, or Head of Senior School).
- Proven experience delivering the British National Curriculum at secondary level, including IGCSE.
- Working knowledge of, or direct experience with, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) framework, including credit accumulation, OSSLT, and community involvement requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a multicultural, multi-curriculum environment.
- Strong understanding of university options and admissions processes across Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Nigeria.
- Experience in curriculum leadership, teacher mentorship, and student assessment.
- Working knowledge of safeguarding standards (KCSIE-aligned) and applicable Nigerian regulatory frameworks.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with Nigerian curriculum and assessment bodies (WAEC, NECO).
- Prior experience in West Africa or other emerging-markets international school contexts.
