Job summary

The Pre-Sales Engineer will serve as the technical bridge between SSL, its technology partners, and customers by translating business and security requirements into practical cybersecurity solutions. The role involves customer engagement, solution architecture, technical presentations, product demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, proposal development

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Technical Sales Support:

  • Partner with the Sales team throughout the entire sales cycle, providing technical expertise and solution support.
  • Conduct customer discovery sessions, technical assessments, and security requirements gathering.
  • Analyse customer environments, business requirements, security gaps, and compliance needs.
  • Recommend appropriate cybersecurity solutions based on identified requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, workshops, and Proof-of-Concepts (POCs).
  • Address technical questions, concerns, and objections during customer engagements.
  • Support the preparation of Statements of Work (SOWs), Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
  • Support sales teams in progressing qualified opportunities through the sales pipeline.


Cybersecurity Solution Design

Design and propose appropriate security solutions across areas including:

  • Endpoint Security and EDR/XDR
  • Network Security and Firewalls
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
  • Security Operations Centre (SOC)
  • Vulnerability Assessment and Management
  • Data Protection, Encryption, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • Cloud Security
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM/UEM)
  • Email Security
  • Zero Trust Security
  • Security Governance, Risk, and Compliance
  • Develop high-level and, where required, detailed solution architectures.
  • Prepare technical architecture diagrams and solution documentation.
  • Ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible, commercially viable, and aligned with customer objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to validate proposed solutions and implementation requirements.


Customer Engagement:

  • Participate in meetings with prospective and existing customers to understand their business and cybersecurity challenges.
  • Establish trusted-advisor relationships with customer IT, cybersecurity, procurement, and executive teams.
  • Present cybersecurity strategies, solutions, and best practices to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct and participate in cybersecurity assessments, workshops, discovery sessions, and solution reviews.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business benefits and measurable outcomes.
  • Support customer engagements from initial discovery through solution selection and closure.


Vendor & Technology Partner Management:

  • Maintain strong working relationships with SSL's technology vendors and strategic partners.
  • Maintain current knowledge of partner products, solutions, licensing models, and competitive positioning.
  • Coordinate with vendors and partners for product demonstrations, technical support, licensing, and Proof-of-Concept activities.
  • Participate in vendor training, enablement programmes, workshops, and certification programmes.
  • Obtain and maintain relevant vendor certifications where applicable.


Proposal & Bid Development:

  • Develop technical content for proposals, tenders, RFPs, RFIs, and other business development documents.
  • Review customer requirements and ensure technical compliance in bid submissions.
  • Assist the Sales team with solution configuration, sizing, and technical costing.
  • Develop technical specifications, solution descriptions, architecture diagrams, and implementation approaches.
  • Ensure proposed solutions accurately address customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Support the preparation of commercial proposals by providing accurate technical inputs.


Market & Competitive Intelligence:

  • Stay informed about emerging cybersecurity threats, technologies, regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Monitor competitor solutions, capabilities, pricing approaches, and market positioning.
  • Identify emerging customer needs and opportunities for new cybersecurity solutions.
  • Provide recommendations for improving SSL's cybersecurity product and service portfolio.
  • Support the development of technical content, demonstrations, and materials that strengthen SSL's market positioning.


Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience 
  • A minimum of an HND in a related field



Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance will be assessed based on measurable contributions to technical sales and business growth, including:

  • Revenue contribution from supported opportunities.
  • Sales pipeline value and conversion rate of supported opportunities.
  • Proposal and bid win rate.
  • Number and success rate of Proof-of-Concept deployments.
  • Customer satisfaction and feedback.
  • Technical proposal turnaround time.
  • Quality and accuracy of technical proposals.
  • Number of successful customer demonstrations and workshops.
  • Vendor certification and technical enablement achievements.
  • Effectiveness of technical support provided to the Sales team.
  • Contribution to new solution development and market opportunities.


Technical Competencies

The successful candidate should have a strong working knowledge of several of the following:
