Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, repair, and replace plumbing systems, pipelines, fixtures, fittings, valves, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance activities on water supply, drainage, and sewage systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Inspect plumbing systems regularly to identify leaks, blockages, corrosion, wear, and other defects requiring attention.
  • Install and maintain sanitary fixtures including water closets, urinals, wash hand basins, sinks, showers, faucets, and water heaters.
  • Ensure all plumbing installations comply with approved specifications, plumbing codes, and safety standards.
  • Perform pipe fitting, joining, threading, cutting, welding, and testing activities as required.
  • Diagnose plumbing faults and identify the root causes of system failures, leakages, pressure issues, and drainage blockages.
  • Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies to minimize damage, operational disruptions, and inconvenience to facility users/residence.
  • Repair or replace defective pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Recommend long-term solutions to recurring plumbing issues and infrastructure deficiencies.
  • Inspect and maintain water storage tanks, booster pumps, pressure vessels, and water treatment systems.
  • Ensure proper functioning of water pumps, pressure control systems, and associated plumbing equipment.
  • Clear blockages and obstructions from drainage and sewage systems using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Conduct routine inspections to prevent backflow incidents and environmental hazards.
  • Support maintenance activities relating to facility infrastructure, utilities, and building services.
  • Assist in renovation, refurbishment, and facility improvement projects involving plumbing works.
  • Coordinate with electricians, AC technicians, contractors, and other maintenance personnel to ensure effective service delivery throughout the facility.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, environmental, and plumbing regulations while carrying out assigned duties.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and potential hazards.
  • Comply strictly with company policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, installations, and testing results.
  • Assist in maintaining plumbing records and maintenance history documentation.
  • Recommend procurement of materials and equipment required for maintenance activities.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and accountability of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the facility maintenance manager within the scope of the role.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Plumbing, Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Experience working in commercial buildings, residential estates, industrial facilities, hospitals, hotels, or facility management environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining water supply systems, drainage systems, sewage infrastructure, pumps, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of water supply systems, drainage systems, sewage networks, pumps, valves, fittings, sanitary fixtures, water storage facilities, and associated plumbing infrastructure.
  • Demonstrates the ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong ability to identify plumbing defects, determine root causes of failures, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Skilled in leak detection, pressure testing, fault diagnosis, and system performance evaluation.
  • Demonstrates a high level of technical competence in plumbing installation, repair, pipe fitting, equipment maintenance, and system testing while ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of workplace safety requirements, plumbing regulations, environmental standards, and safe work practices.
  • Maintains a strong commitment to safety and risk prevention in all maintenance activities.
  • Capable of assessing complex plumbing issues, evaluating available solutions, and implementing practical and cost-effective corrective measures that ensure long-term system reliability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, contractors, clients, and facility occupants.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and excellent customer service when responding to maintenance requests and complaints.
  • Capable of planning and prioritizing work activities effectively, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and completing assignments within established deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, reliability, integrity, and attention to detail in inspections, repairs, installations, and documentation.
  • Consistently upholds quality standards and professional conduct in all aspects of work.
