Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, compassionate and age-appropriate nursing care to infants, children and adolescents.
- Assess, monitor and document paediatric patients' conditions and promptly report changes to the appropriate clinician.
- Administer medications, treatments and prescribed interventions accurately and safely.
- Assist doctors and other healthcare professionals during examinations, procedures and emergencies.
- Monitor vital signs, pain levels, fluid balance and other relevant clinical parameters.
- Prepare patients for investigations, procedures and treatment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date nursing documentation and patient records.
- Educate parents and caregivers on medication, treatment plans, nutrition, hygiene and home care.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to children and their families.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to paediatric emergencies and escalate promptly when necessary.
- Maintain appropriate infection prevention and control standards.
- Ensure proper use, cleaning and care of nursing equipment and supplies.
- Participate in patient handovers, ward rounds, clinical reviews and multidisciplinary activities.
- Perform assigned general ward nursing duties when there are no paediatric cases or when dedicated paediatric nursing services are not required.
- Work as part of the general ward nursing team and provide care to adult or other non-paediatric patients within the scope of professional competence when assigned.
- Support other nursing duties as required to ensure effective utilisation of nursing staff and continuity of patient care.
- Maintain a clean, safe and patient-friendly care environment.
- Comply with hospital policies, professional standards, infection prevention requirements and applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in continuous professional development, clinical training and quality improvement activities.
- Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the Nursing or Hospital Management.
Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (RN) qualification from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration and practising licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Minimum of 3 years of active post-qualification nursing experience, with relevant experience in paediatric nursing.
- Previous experience in a hospital paediatric unit, children's ward, paediatric clinic, or similar setting.
- Strong knowledge of paediatric nursing principles and practices.
- Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's clinical condition.
- Good knowledge of medication administration, infection prevention and patient safety.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ability to perform both paediatric and general ward nursing duties as required.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required by the hospital.
- Candidates with RN/RM, BNSc or additional paediatric nursing qualifications or certifications will have an advantage.
- The ideal candidate should be clinically competent, compassionate, flexible and willing to contribute to the wider nursing operations of the hospital.
