Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging music lessons for learners across Early Years and Primary levels.
- Teach basic musical concepts including rhythm, melody, pitch, tempo, dynamics, musical notation and appreciation.
- Develop learners’ vocal and instrumental skills through practical activities.
- Organise choir, music groups and other musical activities within the school.
- Prepare learners for school events, assemblies, concerts, graduation and other performances.
- Identify and nurture learners with exceptional musical abilities.
- Teach learners appropriate songs, including the school anthem and other school-related songs.
- Introduce learners to a variety of musical instruments and teach basic instrumental skills where applicable.
- Use creative teaching methods, games, movement and technology to make music lessons enjoyable and interactive.
- Assess learners’ progress and maintain appropriate records of their performance.
- Prepare teaching materials and resources required for effective music instruction.
- Encourage discipline, teamwork, confidence and good stage performance among learners.
- Collaborate with class teachers and school management in planning musical activities and events.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, training, school activities and other assigned duties.
- Perform any other duties related to music education as assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, NCE, HND or relevant qualification in Music, Music Education or a related field.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably in a school environment.
- Strong knowledge of music theory and practical music.
- Ability to teach singing and basic musical instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret basic musical notation.
- Good classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Creativity and the ability to make lessons engaging for young learners.
- Ability to prepare learners effectively for musical performances.
- Patience, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in working with children.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and school management.
Desirable Skills:
- Ability to play one or more musical instruments such as keyboard/piano, guitar, drums or recorder.
- Experience in choir training and directing musical performances.
- Basic knowledge of music production or digital music tools.
- Ability to arrange songs and create simple musical compositions.
- Experience preparing children for concerts, competitions or school productions.
