Role Description The Mural Painters Volunteer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Lagos. Volunteers will collaborate with project leads, local residents, and fellow artists to design and paint large-scale murals that reflect community stories and African culture. Day-to-day tasks include preparing walls and surfaces, mixing and testing paint colors, sketching and outlining designs, and applying base coats, details, and finishing touches. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe workspace, caring for painting tools and materials, and assisting with coatings or protective finishes to ensure mural durability. Volunteers may participate in community workshops, support art-related events, and document work-in-progress for storytelling and archiving purposes.
Qualifications
- Practical experience with mural work, including Paint and Painting skills suitable for large surfaces.
- Hands-on abilities in Painting and Decorating to create visually appealing and culturally resonant designs.
- Knowledge of Coatings and protective finishes to ensure mural longevity and weather resistance.
- Experience in Spray Painting and related techniques for gradients, textures, and detailed effects.
- Strong sense of color, composition, and visual storytelling, with a portfolio or samples of prior artwork.
- Ability to work safely on ladders or scaffolding and follow basic health and safety guidelines on-site.
- Collaborative mindset, reliability, and willingness to engage respectfully with diverse community members.
- Interest in African culture, community development, and civic-focused creative projects.
