Responsibilities:
- Scheduling & Front Desk: Book appointments, check patients in/out, manage wait times, and handle cancellations
- Patient Records: Create, update, and maintain electronic health records (EHR/EMR) with accuracy and HIPAA compliance
- Billing & Insurance: Verify insurance eligibility, process claims, post payments, handle billing inquiries, and collect co-pays
- Communication: Answer phones, respond to emails, relay messages between patients and providers, and provide excellent customer service
- Administrative Support: Manage correspondence, transcribe medical notes, order supplies, and coordinate referrals or lab work
- Compliance: Follow confidentiality laws, infection control protocols, and clinic policies
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required. Certificate/Diploma in Medical Office Administration, Medical Assisting, or related field preferred
- 1-2 years in a medical office, hospital, or customer service role preferred. Entry-level roles may provide on-the-job training
- Proficient in EHR/EMR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10/CPT coding basics
- Strong MS Office/Google Workspace skills
- Accurate data entry and typing speed 40+ WPM
- Excellent communication and phone etiquette
- Strong organization and multitasking in fast-paced settings
- Attention to detail and accuracy with sensitive data
- Professionalism, empathy, and discretion
- Certifications (Optional but valued): CMAA - Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, CEHRS, or HIPAA training
Work Environment:
- Typically full-time in medical offices, clinics, or hospitals.
- May involve sitting for long periods
- Occasional evening/weekend shifts
- Direct interaction with patients who may be ill or stressed.
