Job descriptions & requirements
Responsible for legal affairs, regulatory communication with CBN/FIU/FCCPC, contract management and risk control for the Nigerian licensed Finance Company (FC) and micro-lending business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently manage all legal affairs for the Nigerian Finance Company(FC), ensuring business operations comply with applicable laws and regulations while mitigating legal risks.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents according to daily business needs; establish and maintain the local company's contract filing and management system.
- Oversee corporate governance matters, including custody of corporate records, licenses, and regulatory filings; organize and document meetings of the Board and internal management bodies.
- Provide legal advice and business risk assessments to operational teams, ensuring the lawful and compliant conduct of MFB activities.
- Monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and regulatory policies; promptly identify legal risks and report recommendations to management team.
- Participate in developing and improving internal legal management policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external legal counsel locally; organize in-house legal training to raise employees' legal risk awareness.
- When necessary, handle litigation, arbitration, and other legal disputes; manage basic legal affairs for other group-affiliated local business entities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Law; possession of a valid legal practice license (Bar admission) in Nigeria is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in legal management within financial institutions; prior experience with MFBs or microfinance entities is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian financial laws, regulations, and judicial practices.
- Excellent contract review skills and legal risk management capabilities, with strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to independently manage complex legal matters and adapt to a multinational team environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills, with effective verbal and written communication abilities and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and composed under pressure.
