Job summary
A Junior Accountant is an entry-level financial professional who manages the day-to-day transaction processing, record-keeping, and administrative tasks within an accounting department. They ensure the company's financial records are accurate, organized, and up to date while learning under the supervision of a Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Transaction Processing: Record daily sales, vendor invoices, inventory purchases, and operational expenses in the accounting software.
- Accounts Receivable & Payable: Manage customer/distributor balances, track weekly debtor and creditor schedules, and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile daily bank lodgments, statements, and cash books, ensuring any discrepancies are reported and resolved.
- Inventory & Asset Support: Assist with tracking stock movements, maintaining the fixed asset register, and computing monthly depreciation.
- Statutory Compliance: Help prepare schedules for statutory deductions like Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WWT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) to align with Nigerian tax laws.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within retail, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or distribution.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and computerised accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP).
- Student membership or active progression toward professional qualifications like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or ACCA is an added advantage
