Job summary
The HR, Legal & Compliance Lead (Insurance Brokerage) oversees HR operations, regulatory and statutory compliance, and Board Secretariat functions. The role supports board governance, sustains the firm’s operating license, manages people risk, and keeps management informed of regulatory and industry developments in Nigeria’s Insurance and Brokerage sector.

Responsibilities:
Human Resources Leadership:
- Manage end-to-end HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, learning & development, employee relations, compensation, and workforce planning.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in compliance with Nigerian labor laws and industry best practices.
- Oversee performance appraisal processes and support management in driving productivity and accountability.
- Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, employee grievances, and conflict resolution.
- Support
management with HR reporting, people analytics, and organizational development
initiatives.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper management of employee records and HR documentation.
Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Management:
- Ensure
full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to an
Insurance Brokerage firm, including the Corporate
Affairs Commission (CAC), Insurance
industry regulators and supervisory bodies, Labour
and employment legislation
- Coordinate and manage all statutory filings, renewals, returns, and regulatory submissions.
- Maintain a comprehensive compliance register and calendar covering all regulatory obligations.
- Monitor adherence to licensing conditions and regulatory guidelines governing Insurance Brokers.
- Draft/review contracts, service agreements, employment documentation, and internal policies to ensure legal adequacy and risk mitigation.
- Liaise with external legal advisers, regulators, auditors, and consultants as required.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions to management.
Board, Governance & Secretariat Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary Board Secretariat and governance support for the Board of Directors.
- Schedule Board and Board Committee meetings in line with the approved annual calendar.
- Coordinate preparation, collation, and timely circulation of Board packs, including management papers and compliance reports.
- Take accurate and professional minutes of Board and Committee meetings and ensure timely circulation and approval.
- Maintain proper records of Board resolutions, minutes, and governance documentation.
- Monitor action items arising from Board meetings and track implementation status.
Governance, Risk & Advisory Support:
- Support management in strengthening corporate governance frameworks and internal controls.
- Provide advisory support on people risk, regulatory compliance, and governance matters.
- Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Participate in management meetings and provide informed guidance on HR, legal, and compliance matters.
Insurance Industry Research & Regulatory Intelligence:
- Monitor developments in the Nigerian Insurance and Insurance Brokerage industry, including regulatory circulars, policy changes, and compliance directives.
- Conduct periodic industry research and benchmarking exercises.
- Prepare regulatory and industry intelligence updates for executive management and the Board.
- Proactively advise management and the Board on upcoming regulatory changes and their operational impact.
