Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Data Management & Accuracy: Registering new patients, updating patient records, and ensuring the accuracy of clinical information.
- File Maintenance: Organizing, storing, and retrieving medical records (physical files and electronic records) for authorized access.
- Clinical Coding & Indexing: Using standard coding systems (e.g., ICD-10) to classify diagnoses and procedures for data analysis and billing.
- Confidentiality & Compliance: Ensuring compliance with data protection laws and hospital policies regarding patient privacy.
- Reporting & Statistics: Compiling daily, monthly, or annual reports on admissions, discharges, deaths, and clinical data for management.
- Administrative Duties: Scheduling appointments, managing patient inquiries, and facilitating information exchange between departments.
Requirements:
- Education: Typically a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health Records and Information Management, Health Information Science, or a related field.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in computer applications, knowledge of medical terminology, high attention to detail, organizational skills, and strict adherence to confidentiality protocols.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare facility is often required, particularly for senior positions.
