Job summary

We are seeking compassionate, skilled, and values-driven Hausa-speaking counsellors with a strong grounding in Islamic counselling principles to provide psychosocial and emotional support through our helpline services. This role is critical to ensuring culturally and faith-sensitive mental health support for individuals and families.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Provide confidential, non-judgmental counselling support via phone, chat, or other helpline platforms
  • Offer psychosocial support grounded in Islamic values and culturally appropriate practices
  • Conduct initial assessments, risk screening, and appropriate referrals when needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with ethical and organizational standards
  • Adhere strictly to safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection protocols
  • Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development sessions
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and referral partners to ensure holistic care


Requirements:

  • Fluency in Hausa (spoken and written) is mandatory
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of Islamic counselling or faith-based psychosocial support
  • Background in counselling, psychology, social work, mental health, or related fields
  • Previous experience providing counselling or helpline support is an advantage
  • Excellent active listening, empathy, and crisis-response skills
  • Ability to manage emotionally sensitive conversations with professionalism and care


Desirable Attributes:

  • Familiarity with mental health challenges within Northern Nigerian contexts
  • Experience working with women, youth, or vulnerable populations
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends
  • Strong ethical judgment and commitment to client dignity and wellbeing
