Job summary
We are seeking compassionate, skilled, and values-driven Hausa-speaking counsellors with a strong grounding in Islamic counselling principles to provide psychosocial and emotional support through our helpline services. This role is critical to ensuring culturally and faith-sensitive mental health support for individuals and families.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Provide confidential, non-judgmental counselling support via phone, chat, or other helpline platforms
- Offer psychosocial support grounded in Islamic values and culturally appropriate practices
- Conduct initial assessments, risk screening, and appropriate referrals when needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with ethical and organizational standards
- Adhere strictly to safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection protocols
- Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development sessions
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and referral partners to ensure holistic care
Requirements:
- Fluency in Hausa (spoken and written) is mandatory
- Strong knowledge and practical application of Islamic counselling or faith-based psychosocial support
- Background in counselling, psychology, social work, mental health, or related fields
- Previous experience providing counselling or helpline support is an advantage
- Excellent active listening, empathy, and crisis-response skills
- Ability to manage emotionally sensitive conversations with professionalism and care
Desirable Attributes:
- Familiarity with mental health challenges within Northern Nigerian contexts
- Experience working with women, youth, or vulnerable populations
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends
- Strong ethical judgment and commitment to client dignity and wellbeing
