Job summary

The General Manager- Procurement will provide strategic and operational leadership for Vertex Procurement Services Limited. You will oversee the entire procurement and supply chain function, optimize costs, expand supplier networks, drive new market entry, and position the company for leadership in agro-commodity sourcing and local trading.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with group objectives for agrochemicals, food raw materials, and packaging.
  • Lead business growth initiatives: Identify and enter new markets, diversify supplier base, and explore export/import opportunities.
  • Drive operational efficiency through process improvements, inventory management, and supply chain optimization.
  • Achieve significant cost savings via negotiation, bulk purchasing, and long-term supplier partnerships.
  • Build and lead a high-performing procurement team; set KPIs and foster a culture of accountability.
  • Oversee future expansion into local trading of agro-commodities (cashews, sesame, grains, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and ethical sourcing practices.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, track performance metrics, and report regularly to ED/MD.
  • Travel as needed to supplier sites, farms, ports, and industry events.


Requirements:

  • HND/Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Agriculture, or a related field (Master’s/MBA preferred).
  • 3–5 years of proven experience in a senior procurement/supply chain role within agribusiness, manufacturing, agro-commodities, or FMCG.
  • Demonstrated success in cost optimization, supplier negotiation, and business expansion.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian agro-commodity markets, import/export procedures, and supply chain logistics.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software/ERP systems and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • High integrity, strategic thinking, and ability to work autonomously.
  • Willingness to be based in Suleja with occasional travel.
