Gardener

Responsibilities:

• Maintain lawns, gardens, flower beds, shrubs, hedges, trees, and landscaped areas to ensure they remain healthy, attractive, and well-presented at all times.
• Carry out routine watering, mowing, trimming, pruning, edging, and cultivation activities in accordance with established landscaping standards.
• Monitor the health and condition of plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs, taking appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
• Remove weeds, dead plants, fallen leaves, and other debris to maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment.
• Replace damaged, diseased, or dead plants as required to maintain the appearance of landscaped areas.
• Plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation in accordance with landscaping plans and seasonal requirements.
• Monitor plant growth and implement appropriate horticultural practices to ensure optimal development and sustainability.
• Operate and maintain irrigation systems, sprinklers, hoses, and other watering equipment.
• Implement preventive measures to protect plants and landscaping assets from damage caused by pests and diseases.
• Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of all outdoor spaces, pathways, walkways, parking areas, and landscaped surroundings.
• Remove litter, leaves, branches, and other waste materials from gardens and grounds.
• Operate gardening tools and equipment such as trimmers, pruning tools, leaf blowers, and irrigation equipment safely and effectively.
• Ensure proper storage, handling, and accountability of gardening equipment and materials.
• Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and organizational policies while carrying out gardening activities.
• Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals, operating equipment, or performing potentially hazardous tasks.
• Assist in preparing reports on grounds maintenance activities and landscaping improvements.
• Work collaboratively with facility management personnel, maintenance staff, and contractors to ensure overall facility standards are maintained.

 Requirements:

• National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent qualification.
• Vocational training, certification, or formal education in Horticulture, Landscaping, Agriculture, or a related field will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, grounds maintenance, or a related field.
• Experience in maintaining corporate facilities, estates, hotels, schools, hospitals, parks, or commercial properties is an added advantage.
• Practical knowledge of plant care, lawn maintenance, irrigation systems, and landscaping techniques.
• Possesses sound knowledge of plant care, lawn management, pruning techniques, soil preparation, irrigation systems, fertilization methods, and landscaping maintenance practices. Demonstrates the ability to maintain healthy and visually appealing outdoor environments.
• Demonstrates the ability to identify plant diseases, pest infestations, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress factors. Skilled in implementing effective treatment and preventive measures to promote healthy plant growth.
• Proficient in the safe and effective use of gardening equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, hedge cutters, pruning tools, irrigation systems, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
• Possesses a keen eye for detail and takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, appearance, and landscaping quality throughout all assigned areas.
• Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and maintaining productivity throughout extended periods of physical activity.
• Demonstrates the ability to plan and prioritize gardening activities effectively, ensuring that maintenance schedules and landscaping tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
• Maintains a strong commitment to workplace safety, environmental protection, and compliance with established safety procedures when handling tools, equipment, and chemicals.
