Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the maintenance of the chain of custody for all evidence types by our organisation, adhering to set protocols for requesting, receiving, packaging, returning and documenting case-related items and materials.
- Assist in conducting research, gathering data, and analysing information to support decision-making processes or project outcomes.
- Conduct literature reviews to gather information on relevant topics or research questions and summarise key findings for research projects.
- Assist in setting up experiments, preparing materials and equipment, and following protocols under supervision.
- Commit to adhering to internal Quality Control& Assurance and Quality Management Systems and SOPs.
- Take ownership of your own continuous professional development with support from our organisation.
- Prepare presentations or documents summarising project progress, findings, and conclusions for internal or external audiences.
- Collaborate with team members on interdisciplinary projects, share insights, and contribute ideas to problem-solving discussions.
- Conduct DNA analysis from a sample obtained from a variety of evidence types from extraction through to interpretation.
- Conduct step-down training on forensic subject matter for internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills and able to multitask efficiently. Ability to work independently as well as with a small group.
- Candidates should be willing to travel at short notice anywhere within the country.
Requirements:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in any of the following life or applied science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, medical laboratory science or medicine (Acceptable).
- An MSc in any forensic specialisation (Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biology, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Archaeology, Forensic Odontology or Forensic Science)is an added advantage.
- Proven competence as an analyst in a designated forensic science specialisation.
- Candidates should possess 3- 5 years of work experience
- Possess a sound knowledge of current methodologies and techniques used in forensic science and criminal investigations, especially in chemistry and biology, including presumptive tests.
- Possess a firm grasp of underlying principles involved in analyses of biological samples, organic and inorganic substances, including solutions preparation for use in testing and operating laboratory equipment.
- Be proficient in developing and/or applying established standard operating procedures to determine the presence of drugs, alcohol, poisons, biological fluids (i.e. saliva, blood, semen), etc.
- Be proficient in developing and/or applying established standard operating procedures to the analysis of trace evidence such as hairs, paint, fibres, GSR, glass and explosives/ignitable liquids.
- Applicants must reside in Abuja or be willing to relocate
- Applicants must be willing to participate in an on-site aptitude test.
