English Language Teacher

Responsibilities:

Teaching & Lesson Delivery:

• Plan and deliver engaging and well-structured English Language lessons.
• Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Teach key areas including grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, essay writing, oral English, literature-related language skills, and communication as applicable to the curriculum.
• Use appropriate teaching methods to accommodate different learning abilities and styles.
• Encourage students to participate actively in classroom discussions and learning activities.

Student Development:

• Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical-thinking skills.
• Encourage students to communicate confidently and effectively.
• Identify students' academic strengths and areas requiring improvement.
• Provide additional support and learning interventions where necessary.
• Motivate students to develop a strong interest in the English Language.

Assessment & Academic Monitoring:

• Prepare and administer classwork, assignments, quizzes, tests, and examinations.
• Mark students' work accurately and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain appropriate records of students' academic performance.
• Monitor individual student progress and recommend strategies for improvement.
• Prepare academic progress reports as required by school management.

Examination Preparation:

• Prepare students for relevant internal and external examinations.
• Provide revision exercises, practice questions, and examination guidance.
• Familiarize students with appropriate examination formats and expectations.
• Track students' examination performance and implement improvement strategies.

Classroom Management:

• Maintain a positive, respectful, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment.
• Establish and enforce appropriate classroom rules and expectations.
• Encourage punctuality, participation, responsibility, and respect among students.
• Manage classroom activities effectively to maximize learning outcomes.

Collaboration & School Activities:

• Work effectively with other teachers, school management, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in staff meetings, academic planning, school events, and extracurricular activities.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching methods.
• Maintain professional conduct and uphold the school's policies and educational standards.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in English Language, English Education, Education, or a related field.
• NCE, PGDE, TRCN certification, or other relevant teaching qualifications will be an advantage.
• Previous teaching experience, particularly at the secondary school level, is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of English Language curriculum and teaching methodologies.
• Experience preparing students for WAEC, NECO, JAMB, or other relevant examinations will be an advantage.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Good computer literacy and ability to incorporate educational technology into teaching.
• Passion for teaching and commitment to students' academic and personal development.
