Job summary
The engineering manager is responsible for leading the engineering and maintenance function to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance of all plant equipment, utilities, and infrastructure in line with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
Engineering & Maintenance Management:
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all equipment and utilities.
- Ensure high equipment uptime and reliability to support production targets.
- Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
- Manage calibration and validation of critical equipment.
Utilities & Facilities Management:
- Oversee operation and maintenance of critical utilities (HVAC, boilers, chillers, compressed air, water systems, power supply).
- Ensure utilities meet pharmaceutical standards (e.g., purified water, clean steam, environmental controls).
- Monitor energy consumption and drive cost optimization initiatives.
GMP & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) requirements and the WHO GMP guidelines.
- Support audits (internal, regulatory, and client audits) and ensure timely closure of CAPAs.
- Maintain proper documentation (SOPs, logs, maintenance records).
Projects & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead capital projects, including installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (lean manufacturing, downtime reduction, efficiency improvement).
- Support facility expansion and upgrades in line with business growth.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a strong safety culture.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce safe work practices.
- Ensure all engineering staff adhere to HSE policies.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team.
- Drive accountability, discipline, and collaboration within the team.
- Manage workforce planning, performance evaluations, and training programs.
Budget & Cost Control:
- Develop and manage the engineering budget.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 8–12 years’ experience in engineering/maintenance within a pharmaceutical or FMCG manufacturing environment.
- At least 3–5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of GMP, validation, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Project management capability.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical utilities and systems.
- Communication and stakeholder management.
- High level of integrity and ownership.

- Equipment uptime and downtime reduction.
