Cosmetic Scientist

Responsibilities:

Research & Ingredient Development:

• Research emerging cosmetic ingredients, raw materials, technologies, and formulation trends.
• Evaluate the functionality, compatibility, safety, and performance of cosmetic ingredients.
• Identify innovative ingredients and formulation approaches that support product development.
• Conduct ingredient research relevant to different skin types and concerns.

Product Formulation & Development:

• Develop and formulate skincare products from concept through to finished product.
• Conduct laboratory formulation trials and optimise formulations for performance, stability, texture, efficacy, and consumer experience.
• Reformulate and improve existing products where required.
• Support the transition of successful formulations from laboratory scale to commercial production.
• Work with relevant teams to ensure products meet defined product specifications.

Testing, Quality & Product Evaluation:

• Conduct and coordinate stability, compatibility, and performance testing.
• Evaluate finished products and formulations against established quality standards.
• Investigate formulation or product-quality issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Support quality control processes throughout product development and production.
• Monitor product consistency across batches.

Regulatory & Safety Compliance:

• Ensure formulations comply with applicable cosmetic safety and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain awareness of relevant Nigerian and international cosmetic regulations and industry standards.
• Support the preparation and review of technical documentation required for product approval, production, and quality assurance.
• Ensure appropriate safety considerations are incorporated into product development.

Documentation & Technical Records:

• Maintain accurate formulation records, laboratory notes, product specifications, and testing reports.
• Document formulation changes, trials, results, and recommendations.
• Maintain up-to-date records of raw materials and their technical information.
• Prepare technical reports and product development documentation as required.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate with Production, Quality, Medical, Product Development, and other relevant teams.
• Work with suppliers to evaluate raw materials and technical information.
• Provide technical input during product development, production, and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's skincare product portfolio.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in cosmetic formulation and skincare product development.
• Strong knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, raw materials, formulation techniques, and product testing.
• Practical laboratory and formulation experience.
• Good understanding of cosmetic safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet development timelines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• A genuine interest in skincare science, innovation, and product development.
