Job summary

This role is focused on identifying and engaging with children living on the streets, assessing their needs, and supporting their transition into safer and more stable living conditions. The role is best suited to individuals who are familiar with these communities, confident in engaging with vulnerable populations.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Identify children living on the streets who are out of school or in need of urgent support.
  • Engage directly with children in a respectful and empathetic manner to build trust.
  • Conduct basic assessments and collect relevant data on each child’s background and needs.
  • Encourage children to accept support, including rehabilitation and reintegration options.
  • Liaise with families where appropriate to support reunification efforts.
  • Follow up consistently with identified children to monitor progress and well-being.
  • Support the coordination of feeding initiatives and basic welfare activities.
  • Work closely with the organization’s team to ensure accurate reporting and case tracking.
  • Provide general support in the outreach programmes and child welfare activities.


Requirements:

  • A degree in Social Work. Additional training or experience in social work, community development, or related fields is an advantage.
  • Must currently reside in, or have strong familiarity with, one or more of the following areas: Oshodi Isolo, Mushin, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Ajah Lekki, Lagos Mainland, including Makoko and Iwaya, Kosofe, and Somolu.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact with children and community members.
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient, with a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable children.
  • Strong observational and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field-based environments.
  • Basic computer skills and record-keeping ability.


Additional Information:

  • This is a field-based role requiring regular movement within assigned communities.
  • Candidates should be physically able to carry out outreach activities.
  • A strong commitment to child protection and safeguarding is essential.
  • Local language skills relevant to the areas listed are highly desirable.
