The Communications and Advocacy Officer is responsible for leading the Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation’s (ADPF) communications, advocacy, and public engagement efforts to increase visibility, influence public discourse, mobilize support, and strengthen stakeholder and donor engagement. Responsibilities:
Communication Strategy and Brand Management:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that enhance ADPF’s visibility, credibility, and impact.
- Lead internal and external communication planning, including digital, print, and media outreach.
- Ensure consistent branding, tone, and messaging across all communication materials and platforms.
- Produce and manage communication assets that support programs, advocacy, fundraising, and organisational growth.
Digital Communications and Content Management:
- Manage ADPF’s digital platforms, including the website, social media channels, email newsletters, and online campaigns.
- Produce high-quality content such as press releases, articles, blogs, impact stories, advocacy briefs, and social media posts.
- Ensure that digital platforms are regularly updated with accurate, compelling, and audience-appropriate content.
- Monitor engagement metrics and optimise content performance across platforms.
Public Relations and Media Engagement:
- Serve as the Foundation’s spokesperson when required, in coordination with senior leadership.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with media houses, journalists, and influencers.
- Coordinate media engagements, interviews, press conferences, and public appearances.
- Proactively pitch stories and thought leadership pieces to promote Parkinson’s disease awareness and ADPF initiatives.
Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Design and implement advocacy campaigns aimed at influencing public policy, reducing stigma, and improving access to Parkinson’s care.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and alliances with government agencies, healthcare institutions, civil society organisations, and private-sector partners.
- Organise and participate in advocacy events, workshops, policy dialogues, and stakeholder meetings.
- Mobilise community members, caregivers, volunteers, and supporters to participate in advocacy initiatives.
Fundraising Communications and Campaigns:
- Plan and execute fundraising and awareness campaigns, including online and offline initiatives.
- Collaborate with fundraising and program teams to develop compelling donor appeals, case stories, and campaign materials.
- Support donor engagement through storytelling, updates, impact reports, and recognition communications.
Donor Relations and Grant Support:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and supporters through consistent and transparent communication.
- Acknowledge donor contributions, provide timely updates, and ensure positive donor experiences.
- Support grant development by researching, drafting, and editing grant proposals in collaboration with program and management teams.
- Ensure compliance with donor communication and reporting requirements.
Event Planning and Coordination:
- Plan and coordinate events related to Parkinson’s disease awareness, advocacy, and fundraising.
- Manage event communications, logistics, budgets, and stakeholder engagement.
- Liaise with speakers, partners, participants, and media to ensure successful event delivery.
Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting:
- Monitor the effectiveness of communication, advocacy, and fundraising strategies using data and feedback.
- Track media coverage, campaign reach, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy outcomes.
- Prepare regular reports on communications and advocacy activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact.
- Use insights and lessons learned to continuously improve communication approaches and advocacy effectiveness.
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience.
- Degree in a related field.
