Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Renewable Energy Infrastructure

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Our client is a renewable energy infrastructure developer backed by institutional capital. The company develops, finances, and owns solar energy projects for commercial & industrial (C&I) clients, government ministries, and distribution companies across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Revenue streams include:
- C&I solar EPC and service contracts
- Government PPP projects under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- Developer fees at Financial Close on DFI-financed anchor projects
The anchor project targets $10–15M in DFI debt, with Financial Close as a Year 1 stretch goal. The long-term vision is to build a continental platform across 17+ African markets.
The Role
The CFO is a co-principal of the Year 1 mandate. While the CEO leads commercial execution, the CFO owns capital raising and financial structuring.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will:
- Lead DFI negotiations independently
- Present to credit committees as the financial lead
- Drive Series A fundraising and project financing
- Build and own financial models and capital strategy
Beyond capital raising, you will also ensure strong financial operations, reporting, and compliance.
Performance Expectations
First 60 Days
- Financial systems, chart of accounts, and banking controls established
- First monthly management accounts delivered by 10 May 2026
- At least two grant applications submitted
- DFI engagement initiated with identified institutions
By End of Q3 2026
- Anchor project financial model completed (DSCR ≥ 1.30x, sensitivity analysis, equity IRR)
- Series A financial model and Investment Memorandum completed
- Active DFI engagement with at least two institutions
- Finance Analyst recruitment underway
By Year-End (March 2027)
- DFI term sheet secured ($5–10M)
- Series A closed ($1–2M)
- $500k+ in grant funding secured
- Clean Year 1 audit completed
- Financial Close ($10–15M to SPV) achieved (stretch target)
Core Responsibilities
DFI Capital Raising
- Lead all DFI engagements (IFC, AfDB, FMO, Proparco)
- Present projects to credit committees
- Negotiate debt terms (pricing, tenor, covenants, DSRA, conditions precedent)
- Drive Financial Close and manage all requirements
Series A Fundraising
- Build investor-grade 5-year financial models
- Develop financial sections of the Investment Memorandum
- Lead investor presentations and due diligence
- Close $1–2M funding within 8 months
Grant Funding
- Identify and secure grants (SEFA, REPP, GEAPP, UKEF, etc.)
- Lead application writing and submissions
- Target minimum $500k in grant capital
- Manage reporting and compliance
SPV Financial Structuring
- Design SPV structures (cash flow waterfall, DSRA, equity returns)
- Build lender-grade financial models
- Coordinate legal and financial structuring
- Ensure DFI bankability
Financial Controls & Reporting
- Deliver monthly management accounts within 10 business days
- Maintain cost discipline and financial controls
- Manage payroll, tax (PAYE), and pension compliance
- Lead external audit and recruit finance team
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in infrastructure, project, or development finance
- Proven track record in capital raising on the borrower/developer side
- Prior CFO or Finance Director experience (preferred)
- Experience closing DFI-funded energy/infrastructure projects in Africa
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations (FIRS, CBN, PENCOM, CAC)
- Expertise in project finance, SPV structures, and financial modelling
Non-Negotiables
- Led at least one DFI debt raise end-to-end (with verifiable references)
- Professional certification: CFA, ACCA, ACA, ICAN, or equivalent
- Built and defended lender-grade financial models
- Proven success in grant funding applications
- Experience presenting to credit committees or investors independently
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: ₦1,500,000/month
Profit Share: 1.5% of quarterly net profit (post-tax)
