Card Systems Engineer

About the Role

Strivolabs is recruiting a Card Systems Engineer on behalf of a fintech client building robust digital payment and card infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development, integration, and maintenance of card processing systems, ensuring seamless transaction flows, high system reliability, and compliance with industry standards.

This role is best suited for engineers with strong experience in card systems, payment processing, and financial technology environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesCard Platform Development

• Design, develop, and maintain secure and scalable card processing systems.
• Build and manage integrations between card platforms, core banking systems, and payment gateways.

Scheme Integration

• Lead technical integrations with card schemes (e.g., Verve, Afrigo, Visa, Mastercard).
• Implement and manage transaction flows including authorization, clearing, and settlement.

System Performance & Reliability

• Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of card services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to card transactions and processing systems.
• Optimize system performance and scalability to support increasing transaction volumes.

Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with PCI DSS and other relevant payment security standards.
• Implement best practices for secure handling of cardholder data and transactions.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Work closely with product, engineering, and operations teams to deliver card-related features and improvements.
• Support the development and launch of new card products and services.

Documentation & Support

• Maintain detailed documentation for system architecture, integrations, and processes.
• Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and stakeholders.
  

Requirements

• 3–6 years of experience in card systems engineering, payments, or financial services technology
• Strong proficiency in C#, Java, or other backend development languages
• Experience integrating with card schemes (Verve, Afrigo, Visa, Mastercard)
• Solid understanding of card lifecycle management (issuance, activation, transaction processing, settlement)
• Knowledge of payment processing systems and workflows
• Experience working with APIs and system integrations
• Strong understanding of PCI DSS and payment security standards
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in a fintech or digital payments company
• Familiarity with core banking systems and payment gateways
• Experience with Node.js or modern backend frameworks
• Exposure to high-volume transaction systems
