We are seeking a results-driven business development officer to drive business growth and market expansion within the farming and agriculture sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing relationships with customers and strategic partners, promoting the company's agricultural products and services, and increasing revenue. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the agricultural value chain, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to identify and convert business opportunities.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the agricultural and farming market.
  • Build and maintain relationships with farmers, distributors, retailers, agro-dealers, processors, wholesalers, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Promote and sell the company's agricultural products, farm produce, services, or solutions.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, competitor activities, and potential growth opportunities.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to increase sales, market share, and revenue.
  • Generate leads through field visits, networking, referrals, digital channels, industry events, and other prospecting activities.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline and consistently work towards achieving business development and revenue targets.
  • Prepare and deliver business proposals, quotations, presentations, and commercial offers to prospective clients and partners.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and partnership terms while protecting the company's commercial interests.
  • Identify potential partnerships with agricultural cooperatives, food processors, distributors, institutions, retailers, and other relevant organizations.
  • Maintain regular communication with existing customers to encourage repeat business and identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Monitor customer feedback and market developments and provide insights to management.
  • Collaborate with farm operations, supply chain, marketing, and finance teams to ensure smooth delivery of products and services.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, business opportunities, and market intelligence.
  • Prepare regular reports on sales performance, business development activities, pipeline, and market opportunities.
  • Represent the company professionally at agricultural exhibitions, trade fairs, farmer associations, networking events, and other industry engagements.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of an HND in business administration, agricultural economics, agriculture, marketing, agribusiness, or a related field. 
  • 2–5 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, or commercial roles, preferably within agriculture, agribusiness, FMCG, food processing, or related industries.
  • Good understanding of the agricultural/farming value chain.
  • Proven ability to generate leads, develop relationships, and convert opportunities into sales.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Strong market research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM or sales management tools.
  • Willingness to travel for farm visits, client meetings, market development, and business
