Role Description

This full-time Back End Developer (Node.js/NestJS) role is an on-site position based in Abuja. The Back End Developer will design, develop, and maintain server-side applications and APIs using NestJS and TypeScript, ensuring robust performance, scalability, and security. Daily responsibilities include writing clean, strongly typed code, designing database schemas and queries with TypeORM, integrating front-end components with back-end services, and troubleshooting technical issues. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, participating in code reviews, writing unit and integration tests, optimizing system performance, and contributing to technical documentation and architecture decisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' professional experience in back-end development, with demonstrable production experience in Node.js.
• Strong hands-on experience with the NestJS framework, including modules, providers, dependency injection, guards, interceptors, and pipes.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, including interfaces, generics, decorators, and writing type-safe, maintainable code.
• Practical experience with TypeORM — entity design, relations, migrations, query builder, and transaction handling.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and SOLID principles, with the ability to write modular, reusable, and testable code.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs; familiarity with GraphQL is an advantage.
• Strong working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including schema design, indexing, and query optimisation. Exposure to NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis is a plus.
• Experience with authentication and authorisation patterns (JWT, OAuth2, role-based access control) and general API security practices.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows such as pull requests and code reviews.
• Familiarity with automated testing (Jest), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines is beneficial.
• Basic front-end understanding sufficient to integrate and collaborate effectively with front-end teams.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work collaboratively in an on-site team environment.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
