Job Summary

The Assistant Manager, Finance is responsible for delivering high-quality financial management, reporting, compliance, and business advisory support across the firm. The role combines technical accounting expertise with financial analysis, budgeting, internal controls, and strategic decision support to enable effective business operations and informed decision-making. Partnering with business leaders, the role ensures financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with statutory and firm-level requirements. This is a senior individual-contributor role at Assistant Manager Grade, with full ownership of core finance processes and no direct reports.


As an Assistant Manager, Finance your responsibilities will be to:   

1. Financial Control & Accounting

  • Own the integrity of the general ledger and ensure all transactions are correctly classified and recorded.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, bank reconciliations, and petty cash schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process, including trial balances and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the chart of accounts and accounting policies in line with IFRS/SAS.


2. Financial Reporting & Business Insight

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and present variance analysis.
  • Translate financial data into commercial insight on project profitability, utilisation and cost drivers.
  • Prepare board and partner-level reporting packs, including dashboards and executive summaries.
  • Support the management on financial modelling, scenario analysis and strategic decision support.


3. Treasury, Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Prepare and manage rolling cash flow forecasts and advise on liquidity positioning.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable cycles, preparing payment runs and escalating collection risks.
  • Support banking relationships, facility documentation and daily treasury operations.
  • Drive reduction in debtor days and improve working capital efficiency.


4. Budgeting & Planning

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting process across departments and client-facing desks.
  • Monitor departmental and project budgets, flag deviations early, and follow up with budget holders.
  • Develop costing and pricing inputs for client proposals and engagement profitability reviews.


5. Statutory Compliance & Tax

  • Own end-to-end statutory compliance, including VAT, WHT, CIT, and other remittances.
  • Serve as principal liaison with FIRS, state IRS, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor changes to Nigerian tax and regulatory requirements and advise management on implications.


6. Audit, Risk & Internal Control

  • Document, apply and monitor internal financial controls across the firm.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact for external auditors and coordinate audit deliverables.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • § Ensure audit readiness at all times through disciplined documentation and record management.


7. Systems, Process & Advisory Support

  • Maintain and optimise finance systems (Sage/QuickBooks/ERP) and drive automation of manual processes.
  •  Document and continuously improve finance standard operating procedures.
  •  Provide financial advisory support to business leaders on costing, pricing and resource decisions.
  •  Respond to internal finance queries and provide analysis on requests across departments
  •  Apply AI tools to accelerate finance work (reconciliations, variance commentary, forecasting, document review and reporting) while validating all outputs before use.
  •  Identify and pilot AI-enabled improvements to finance workflows, with appropriate controls over data confidentiality and accuracy.


You’d be a good fit if you:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field (a master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage).
  • Are ICAN, ACA, or ACCA qualified.
  • Bring 4–6 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with demonstrated ownership of core finance processes.
  •  Have strong knowledge of policy and/or process mapping/creation
  •  Have experience in a consulting or professional services environment (strongly preferred).
  •  Are proficient in accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, or a comparable ERP system).
  •  Have a strong working knowledge of Nigerian tax legislation, IFRS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Bring strong Excel and financial modelling capability.
  •  Are proficient in applying AI tools to finance work (e.g., reconciliations, forecasting, variance commentary, document review, and reporting), with sound judgement in validating outputs.
