Assistant Accountant
Job summary
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the finance and accounts department with daily accounting operations. The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and supporting financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills, integrity, and the ability to work accurately under deadlines.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Financial Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and journals.
- Accounts Processing: Support accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and receipt documentation.
- Bank & Account Reconciliation: Perform regular bank and account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Expense & Voucher Management: Prepare and review payment vouchers, expense reports, and supporting documents.
- Payroll Support: Assist with payroll data preparation and statutory deductions processing.
- Reporting Support: Help prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Audit Support: Provide required documentation and schedules during internal and external audits.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with company financial policies and regulatory requirements.
- System Entry: Post financial data into accounting software and maintain proper filing systems.
- General Finance Support: Provide administrative support to the accounts department as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in accounting or finance support roles.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory):
- Progress toward a professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent).
- Experience using ERP or accounting systems.
- Knowledge of tax and statutory remittance processes.
