API Developer/IT Officer

Responsibilities:

API Gateway & Middleware Co-Management:

• Take direct administrative and configuration access in staging/production environments for our API Gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee, WSO2, or AWS API Gateway).
• Design and deploy custom gateway routing rules, rate-limiting policies, response transformation scripts, and payload caching layers to shield client applications from slow vendor backend endpoints.
• Enforce modern API security mechanisms across all gateway endpoints, including OAuth2, Mutual TLS (mTLS), HMAC signature verification, JSON Web Tokens (JWT), and rate-limiting.

Interface Standardized Specs & Mock Engine Creation:

• Author clear, comprehensive OpenAPI 3.0 / Swagger specifications, gRPC proto files, and JSON/XML schema definitions for all proposed digital features prior to vendor implementation.
• Build, host, and maintain high-fidelity mock servers and Postman API collections so internal front-end teams (iOS, Android, Web, POS) can design
• UI/UX features concurrently without waiting for backend vendor completion.

Vendor Delivery Acceleration & Technical Oversight:

• Review technical design documents, database query structures, and API architecture proposed by the MSP; identify potential bottlenecks, race conditions, or unhandled exception flows before code is deployed.
• Execute rigorous Technical Acceptance Testing (TAT) on all API releases delivered by the vendor.
• Perform deep-dive root cause analysis on API failures using network traces, HTTP status codes, raw payload analysis, and Wireshark/Postman debugging tools to prove whether delays/failures stem from vendor resource understaffing or infrastructure bugs.

Payment Switch & Third-Party Integrations:

• Directly manage technical sandboxing and production certification integrations for NIBSS payment rails, switching partners (Interswitch, Unified Payments), card schemes (Verve, Mastercard, Visa), and telecom USSD platforms.
• Design robust webhook processing infrastructure with automated retry queues (exponential backoff) to handle asynchronous payment status notifications without losing transaction state.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5+ years of progressive hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 3 years specialised in API integrations, middleware architecture, or technical delivery within a CBN-regulated bank, payment service bank (PSB), payment switch, or high-volume fintech operator.
• Deep, hands-on experience configuring and managing enterprise API gateways (Kong, Apigee, WSO2, or AWS API Gateway).
• Expert-level fluency in RESTful APIs, gRPC, WebSockets, SOAP/XML, ISO 8583, ISO 20022, and payment webhook architectures.
• Capability to write production-grade integration wrappers and middleware scripts in at least one modern backend language (Go, Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, or Python).
• Observability Tools: Advanced mastery of Postman/Newman automation, Swagger Editor, Charles Proxy, Wireshark, Datadog, or ELK Stack for API performance analysis.

Remuneration: NGN 6 Million – 8 Million Per Annum
