Academic Tutor and House Parent

Role Description The Female Academic Tutor and House Parent is a full-time, on-site role based in Ikorodu, responsible for both academic support and residential care. In this position, the individual will tutor students in core academic subjects, help with homework, and support exam preparation while reinforcing good study habits. The role also includes acting as a caring house parent by supervising daily routines, ensuring discipline, overseeing hygiene and mealtimes, and maintaining a safe, nurturing living environment. The person in this role will coordinate enrichment activities, encourage participation in performing arts and leadership programs, and model positive values and behavior. Additional responsibilities include maintaining records, communicating with the wider team, responding appropriately to welfare or health concerns, and supporting the emotional well-being of each learner.

Qualifications

• Strong academic tutoring skills in core subjects (such as English, Mathematics, and basic sciences), with the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt to different learning styles.
• Experience in child or youth care, including supervision in a boarding or residential setting, with a focus on safety, discipline, and emotional support.
• Ability to support extracurricular and creative activities, including interest in performing arts, visual arts, or leadership programs.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the capacity to build trust and rapport with children and colleagues.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle daily schedules, record-keeping, and multiple responsibilities.
• Demonstrated empathy, patience, and resilience when working with orphaned, disadvantaged, or underserved children.
• Prior experience in teaching, mentoring, social work, or caregiving roles is highly beneficial.
• Relevant post-secondary education in Education, Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field is an advantage.
• Willingness to work flexible hours appropriate for a boarding environment, including evenings and weekends when needed.
• Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and upholding the academy’s mission and values.
