Job summary
The Air Conditioning (AC) Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, and climate control systems within the facilities.

Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, maintain, service, and repair air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, and cooling systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Carry out preventive maintenance activities on split units, package units, VRF systems, chillers, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), exhaust systems, and ventilation equipment.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure HVAC systems are functioning efficiently and effectively.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and equipment lifespan.
- Ensure all HVAC equipment operates within recommended parameters and performance standards.
- Conduct routine cleaning of filters, evaporator coils, condenser coils, ducts, diffusers, and other HVAC components.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults affecting air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- Repair or replace defective compressors, motors, thermostats, capacitors, contactors, relays, sensors, valves, and other HVAC components.
- Perform refrigerant leak detection, pressure testing, vacuuming, gas charging, and system balancing activities.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests to minimize operational disruptions.
- Maintain records of recurring faults and recommend long-term solutions to improve reliability.
- Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment, cold rooms, freezers, chillers, and cooling systems where applicable.
- Assist in implementing preventive maintenance strategies that maximize equipment performance and lifespan.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, environmental, and workplace regulations while carrying out maintenance activities.
- Ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specialized HVAC maintenance tools.
- Identify and report unsafe working conditions, equipment hazards, and environmental risks.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of refrigerants and other hazardous materials.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, refrigerant usage, and equipment performance.
- Report major equipment defects, recurring issues, and replacement requirements to management.
- Recommend procurement of materials and replacement parts required for maintenance activities.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and accountability of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with electricians, plumbers, the facility maintenance manager, contractors, and other facility personnel to achieve maintenance objectives.
- Support facility improvement projects involving HVAC installations and upgrades.
- Participate in emergency maintenance activities and other facility support functions.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the facility manager within the scope of the role.
Requirements:
- National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant HVAC certifications and technical training will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of practical experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Experience working in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, hospitals, residential estates, or facility management environments.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining split units, package units, VRF systems, chillers, cold rooms, and other HVAC equipment.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and climate control systems, including their installation, operation, maintenance, and repair. Demonstrates the ability to diagnose faults and implement effective solutions that ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
- Strong ability to identify mechanical, electrical, and HVAC-related faults using appropriate testing instruments and diagnostic techniques.
- Demonstrates a high level of technical competence in servicing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC equipment while adhering to industry standards, manufacturer specifications, and best practices.
- Thorough understanding of workplace safety requirements, HVAC regulations, refrigerant handling procedures, and environmental compliance standards. Maintains a strong commitment to safe working practices at all times.
- Capable of assessing complex technical issues, evaluating available solutions, and making sound decisions that support operational efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Ability to communicate effectively with
colleagues, contractors, clients, and facility occupants.
Demonstrates professionalism and strong customer service skills when responding to maintenance requests. - Capable of managing multiple assignments, prioritizing work effectively, and completing maintenance activities within established timelines while maintaining quality standards.
