Job summary

This is a leadership role for an experienced automotive professional who understands both workshop operations and people management. You'll oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring jobs are completed safely, and to the highest quality standards. You're responsible for technician productivity, equipment use, and workflow.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the automotive workshop.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop technicians and workshop personnel.
  • Allocate work efficiently to maximise productivity and minimise turnaround time.
  • Monitor workshop performance and technician productivity.
  • Ensure repairs and maintenance meet manufacturer and company quality standards.
  • Maintain strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate vehicle inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and quality control.
  • Manage workshop equipment, tools, and maintenance schedules.
  • Work closely with customer service and management to ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Monitor inventory requirements and coordinate with procurement where necessary.
  • Prepare operational reports and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop systems that improve efficiency, profitability, and service quality.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in automotive workshop operations, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Proven experience managing technicians and workshop operations.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of workshop health and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and workshop management systems is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with experience managing authorised dealerships, fleet maintenance operations, or high-volume automotive service centres will have an advantage.
  • Manufacturer certifications or technical certifications from recognised automotive brands are highly desirable.
