Position Title: Veterinary Doctor – Poultry Farm

Job Summary
The Veterinary Doctor will be responsible for ensuring the health, productivity, and welfare of poultry flocks within a large-scale commercial poultry farm in Nigeria. Key duties encompass disease prevention, accurate diagnosis, implementation of vaccination programs, biosecurity management, and provision of technical guidance to optimize flock performance and minimize mortality.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily flock health, promptly identifying signs of disease, stress, or atypical behavior.
- Diagnose and clinically manage poultry diseases and infections.
- Develop and supervise vaccination schedules tailored to regional disease prevalence and risks.
- Implement and enforce stringent farm biosecurity measures.
- Conduct necropsies to establish definitive causes of mortality.
- Collect and submit diagnostic samples, coordinating with veterinary reference laboratories.
- Monitor and analyze production parameters including mortality rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), growth rate, and egg production (for layer operations).
- Train farm personnel in disease recognition, vaccination techniques, hygiene protocols, and proper bird handling.
- Maintain accurate records of medications, vaccines, and veterinary supplies.
- Ensure correct dosage and adherence to prescribed withdrawal periods for all medications.
- Prepare comprehensive health and performance reports for farm management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent).
- Valid registration with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN).
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in commercial poultry farming (preferred).
Skills & Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of poultry diseases and evidence-based vaccination protocols.
- Proficiency in conducting post-mortem examinations and interpreting laboratory results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to manage large flocks efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
