Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the face and voice of a news broadcast, delivering stories clearly, accurately, and professionally on live or recorded television.
  • Presents scripted and unscripted news using a teleprompter or prepared notes, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor during live broadcasts.
  • Research news topics thoroughly to ensure accuracy, relevance, and context in all coverage.
  • Write, edit, and prepare news scripts for live or recorded presentation, ensuring clarity, factual accuracy, and engaging delivery.
  • Introduces news segments including weather, sports, interviews, and field reports with proper pacing, tone, and clarity. Responds swiftly to breaking news, providing accurate, real-time updates, and adjusts the program flow in coordination with producers.
  • Stays informed on local, national, and international current events, and researches key topics and interview subjects to ensure accurate reporting.
  • The role involves both in-studio responsibilities and outside, such as reporting from the field, conducting on-site interviews, and covering live events outside of the studio when required. Rehearses challenging names, terminology, or story details before going on air.
  • Conducts live and recorded interviews with newsmakers, eyewitnesses, and subject matter experts, asking thoughtful and relevant questions.
  • Manages difficult or sensitive interviews professionally and maintains neutrality throughout the discussion.
  • Works closely with producers, camera operators, and control room staff to ensure a smooth, well-timed broadcast. Ensures all content meets ethical standards, avoiding bias or misinformation, and follows legal, copyright, and editorial guidelines.
  • Maintains credibility, impartiality, and professionalism both on-screen and in public.
  • Stays up to date with media trends, newsroom technologies, and evolving viewer preferences.
  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to accuracy, public service, and effective storytelling.


Requirements:

  • Minimum qualification of a BSC
  • 1 year of previous experience in a similar role
