Retail Operations Manager
Job summary
The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for end-to-end performance of Koko Mart’s retail operations. This role owns store execution, inventory discipline, staff productivity, merchandising standards, and profitability at store level. This is a management position for a structured operator who understands retail systems, shrinkage control, inventory turns, and daily execution across people, stock, and processes.

Responsibilities:
Store Operations & Execution:
- Oversee daily store operations including opening, closing, and shift handovers
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer experience at all times
- Ensure all store equipment (freezers, fridges, POS peripherals, shelving) are functional through frequent checks and preventive maintenance
Floor Management & Visual Merchandising:
- Enforce approved planograms to ensure proper shelving and category display
- Ensure high-margin products are placed at eye level and impulse-buy items are stocked at checkout points
- Monitor shelf availability and presentation throughout the day and correct gaps immediately
Inventory, Stock Control & Loss Prevention:
- Investigate all stock variances and lead root-cause analysis
- Schedule, supervise, and sign off on stock counts
- Oversee the "Back Door" intake process to ensure supplier deliveries match invoices exactly (quantity, quality, expiry)
- Implement and enforce strict FIFO (First-In-First-Out) systems across all categories
- Conduct regular expiry-date checks and proactively manage near-expiry stock
Sales, Cost Control & Risk Mitigation:
- Drive daily and monthly sales performance in line with targets
- Monitor sell-through rates, slow-moving stock, and stock aging
- Collaborate with procurement on reorder quantities and supplier performance
- Enforce cost-control measures to reduce shrinkage, damages, and expiries
- Identify operational risks early and implement mitigation actions
- Support promotions, pricing changes, and in-store activations to improve sell-through
People Management & Training:
- Create and manage efficient shift schedules to meet peak and off-peak demand
- Supervise store staff and department leads across all shifts
- Train staff regularly on customer service, product knowledge, cross-selling, and upselling
- Enforce the Code of Conduct, policies, and SOPs consistently
Customer Experience & Issue Resolution:
- Handle and resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly
- Track recurring complaints and implement corrective actions
Reporting & Management Communication:
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Provide clear operational insights to management and escalate issues proactively
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Retail Management, Operations, or a related field
- Minimum of 3+ years' experience in supermarket, FMCG retail, or multi-category retail operations
- Proven experience managing high-volume inventory with hundreds to thousands of SKUs
- Demonstrated success reducing shrinkage, expiries, and stock variances
- Experience leading teams across shifts in a fast-paced retail environment
Technical & Operational Skills:
- Strong knowledge of inventory management principles
- Ability to read and interpret sales, stock, and variance reports
- Comfortable working with POS systems and basic inventory software
- Solid understanding of cost control and retail margin drivers
- Strong people-management and disciplinary skills
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Detail-oriented with a strong execution mindset

- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Ability to lead from the floor and set the standard by example
