Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Structural Design and Analysis:

  • Develop structural designs for buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Perform structural analysis using engineering software and manual calculations.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Prepare structural drawings, specifications, and design reports.
  • Review architectural and engineering drawings for structural integrity and feasibility.


Project Execution Support:

  • Provide technical support during construction to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections to monitor structural works and verify quality of execution.
  • Resolve technical issues arising during construction.
  • Review and approve contractor submissions, shop drawings, and material specifications.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare calculation sheets, design reports, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes and project revisions.
  • Prepare progress reports and technical assessments for management.


Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with architects, quantity surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and project managers.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide structural input at all stages.
  • Liaise with contractors and consultants to ensure smooth project delivery.


Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all structural designs comply with national and international building codes.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to structural integrity and safety.
  • Ensure quality control standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.


Leadership and Mentoring:

  • Supervise junior engineers and draftspersons.
  • Review and validate structural designs prepared by junior team members.
  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building within the engineering team.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., COREN registration or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • Professional membership with relevant engineering bodies is desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in structural engineering design and project execution.
  • Experience in residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex structural designs and manage construction support activities.
