Responsibilities:
Structural Design and Analysis:
- Develop structural designs for buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects.
- Perform structural analysis using engineering software and manual calculations.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Prepare structural drawings, specifications, and design reports.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings for structural integrity and feasibility.
Project Execution Support:
- Provide technical support during construction to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor structural works and verify quality of execution.
- Resolve technical issues arising during construction.
- Review and approve contractor submissions, shop drawings, and material specifications.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare calculation sheets, design reports, and technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes and project revisions.
- Prepare progress reports and technical assessments for management.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work closely with architects, quantity surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and project managers.
- Participate in project meetings and provide structural input at all stages.
- Liaise with contractors and consultants to ensure smooth project delivery.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all structural designs comply with national and international building codes.
- Conduct risk assessments related to structural integrity and safety.
- Ensure quality control standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Leadership and Mentoring:
- Supervise junior engineers and draftspersons.
- Review and validate structural designs prepared by junior team members.
- Provide technical guidance and capacity building within the engineering team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., COREN registration or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- Professional membership with relevant engineering bodies is desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in structural engineering design and project execution.
- Experience in residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to deliver complex structural designs and manage construction support activities.
