About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Cost Controller to join a major roads and infrastructure project in Nigeria. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional to take ownership of cost management, budgeting, and financial forecasting for a large-scale civil engineering initiative.

Operating in a confidential capacity for a leading contractor, the successful candidate will be based entirely on-site. You will play a critical role in ensuring the project is delivered within budget while maintaining the highest standards of financial control and commercial awareness.

Key Responsibilities

•Oversee and manage all cost control activities for a major roads and infrastructure project from inception through to final handover.

•Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive cost control systems, procedures, and workflows tailored to heavy civil works.

•Prepare accurate and timely cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial summaries for senior management and project stakeholders.

•Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets, proactively identifying variances and recommending corrective actions to mitigate financial risks.

•Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure accurate cost tracking, resource allocation, and forecasting.

•Review, evaluate, and negotiate contractor claims, variations, and progress payments.

•Conduct risk assessments and value engineering exercises to optimize project costs without compromising quality or safety.

•Mentor and guide junior cost control and commercial staff, fostering a culture of financial accountability across the site team.

Qualifications & Experience

•Minimum of 15 years of proven experience in cost control and commercial management within the heavy construction industry.

•Extensive and specific experience working on large-scale roads, highways, and infrastructure projects is strictly required.

•Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.

•Strong proficiency in industry-standard cost management software (e.g., Primavera, SAP, or specialized ERPs) and advanced MS Excel skills.

•Previous experience working on-site in Nigeria or the broader West African region is highly advantageous and strongly preferred.

•Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

•Robust ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and culturally diverse on-site environment.
