Service Engineer
Job summary
The Service Engineer is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and supporting heavy-duty trucks and related equipment to ensure optimal vehicle performance, reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction. The role involves conducting technical inspections, troubleshooting faults, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance.

Responsibilities:
Vehicle Diagnosis and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults in heavy-duty trucks.
- Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify technical issues accurately.
- Conduct inspections and technical assessments of vehicles and components.
Maintenance and Repair Operations:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and related systems.
- Repair or replace defective parts, engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspensions, and electrical components.
- Ensure repairs are completed according to manufacturer standards and company procedures.
Technical Support and Field Service:
- Provide technical support to customers, drivers, and workshop personnel.
- Respond to field breakdowns and emergency repair requests.
- Conduct on-site repairs and technical inspections when required.
Vehicle Inspection and Testing:
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and post-repair testing of trucks.
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and meet operational and safety standards before release.
- Monitor vehicle performance and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare service reports, fault diagnosis reports, maintenance records, and job cards.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, spare parts usage, and technical activities.
- Update service history and maintenance schedules for assigned vehicles.
Spare Parts and Inventory Coordination:
- Identify and request required spare parts, tools, and consumables.
- Coordinate with the parts department for timely availability of components.
- Ensure proper handling and accountability of workshop tools and equipment.
Warranty and Quality Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and service quality standards.
- Follow company quality assurance procedures during repairs and maintenance.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance;
- Adhere to workshop safety policies, operational procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure safe handling of workshop equipment, oils, batteries, and hazardous materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety within the workshop environment.
Customer Service and Relationship Management:
- Communicate technical findings and repair recommendations to customers.
- Provide professional after-sales technical support and customer assistance.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service quality.
Training and Technical Development:
- Support training and mentoring of junior technicians and mechanics.
- Stay updated on new truck technologies, diagnostic systems, and manufacturer updates.
- Participate in technical training and certification programs.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in heavy-duty truck maintenance, diagnostics, or technical service operations.
- Experience working with truck brands such as SINOTRUK, HOWO, Volvo, Scania, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, or similar is an added advantage.
- HND/bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or automotive engineering.
- Technical certifications in heavy-duty truck maintenance are an added advantage.
